About Illuminate-FNQ

Our company Illuminate-FNQ Ltd, is a Not-for-profit provider of scientific and environmental education in Far North Queensland, Australia.


One of our primary aims is to promote dialogue and partnerships in science and environmental planning and research between Australia and other countries in a variety of communities, industries, universities, and the private sector; and including youth, women, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Peoples.


Bringing Science into the Community Agenda


A core component of our program is our pathbreaking International Science & Environment Festival, (Cairns, Queensland, Australia) dates to be announced for 2022.
It will be the first festival of its type to be organized by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Participation in all aspects of the festival will include influential elders, our youth, and community members to generate momentum in the public to engage more fully in STEM careers.

Beyond the festival, we are creating a number of other endeavours to build upon the momentum of the festival, to educate, provide careers and STEM for youth, women, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Sharon
Bonython-Ericson
FNQ Founder, CEO
Sharon Bonython-Ericson has extensive experience in the public health field, starting as a pharmacy outlet manager before moving on to postgraduate study as Inaugural QLD Fulbright scholar at the Harvard University School of Public Health on Quality Use of Medicines.
Gill Mailman
FNQ Commercial
Gill Mailman is a proud Bidjara woman and a respected Indigenous business leader and trailblazer. Gill became the first Aboriginal female electrician and first tele-communications technician.

Juanita Sherwood
Scientific Expert
A proud Wiradjuri woman, Dr. Sherwood is a registered nurse, teacher, lecturer, researcher, and manager with a depth of working experience of some 35 years in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education.

Jenny Fraser
Art & Culture
Jenny served on the National Advisory Group for the Centre of Indigenous Story as associate member for the Centre for Creative Arts at Latrobe University.

Bronwyn Minniecon
Business Expert
Bronwyn has over 25 years with the Public Service, Dept of Child Safety, Youth Justice, Housing &Disability Services, from Administration roles to LocalArea Coordinator in Cape York & Torres Straits.

David Luskin
Economic Expert
Dr. David Luskin has worked extensively in both Australia and the United States on economic development, including serving as a board member for the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis and on US National Academies of Sciences committees.

Timothy Papandreou
Technology Expert
Australian-born, Timothy Papandreou is Founder & CEO of Emerging Transport Advisors, was on the Google X team that launched the world’s first automated vehicles and advises the US National Academies of Sciences on transport technology.
